About Us
We're students, we're New Yorkers, and we believe in the power of peer-to-peer support. Learn more about our story and our commitment to helping every student thrive.
How We Started
Tutors for Hope was founded in 2025 by Foster Cohn, a high school student from Manhattan who saw a need for more accessible and relatable academic support for students in New York City. Frustrated by the educational disparities across the city, Foster wanted to create a program that wasn't just about homework help, but about building confidence and fostering a genuine love of learning.
The idea was simple: connect motivated high school students who have excelled in their studies with younger students who could benefit from their guidance. By creating a program for students, by students, we aim to break down the barriers that can make traditional tutoring feel intimidating. We started with just a handful of volunteers and one partner school, driven by the belief that a little bit of help from a peer can make a world of difference.

Bridging Gaps, Building Futures
At Tutors for Hope, we believe that every student deserves the chance to reach their full potential. Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality, and relatable academic support to underprivileged middle and high school students across New York City. Our dedicated team of volunteer tutors—all high-achieving high schoolers themselves—are passionate about making a difference in their community by helping their peers build confidence and master new skills.
